Satellite manufacturing in a ISO 8 controlled cleanroom environment

In Getafe, close to Spain’s capital city Madrid, Airbus is manufacturing satellites and components for aerospace.

The sensitive process of aerospace manufacturing needs to be rolled out in a cleanroom environment. These circumstances are needed to ensure a particle-free manufacturing environment.

Completion of a cleanroom for official qualification

Viessmann Technologies was responsible for the completion and commissioning of a state of the art cleanroom at Airbus in Madrid. The work was planned and executed to make the cleanroom ready for its qualification and successful handover.

Special challenges of the project from 15m high cleanroom ceiling

As part of Viessmann Technologies scope of work, a cleanroom grid ceiling system of more than 3000 m² has been installed at a height of more than 15 meters. The whole cleanroom wall and ceiling area has been sealed to ensure tightness and correct pressure inside the manufacturing area. Additionally all connections have been improved and sealed. Panels for sound absorption have been added into the ceiling to minimize the noise from the complete ventilation system.

Cleanroom classification with recirculation units

To comply with the manufacturing guidelines a certain level of cleanliness needed to be reached. Viessmann Technologies in collaboration with Airbus designed an innovative air recirculation to reach the air cleanliness required by that important project.

Short lead time from design to commissioning

Viessmann Clean and Cool Solutions has important production capabilities that allow quick execution from design to commissioning. The project has been handed over in just over 26 weeks from the start date.

Technical details:

  • 3000 m² cleanroom ceiling with substructure and sound absorption panels
  • Integration of lights, sprinklers and exhaust air grids
  • Delivery of 6 personnel airlocks with air showers, cleanroom doors and conductive cleanroom floor
  • Viessmann Technologies designed, delivered, installed and commissioned 10 recirculation units with H14 and AMC filtration systems, including adjustable flow velocity and direction.
